How It Works

Connect

We’ll first connect with the attorney to understand the needs and expectations. If they have additional information to share with us, this is a good time to do so.

Interviews

We’ll then divide our interviews into two 90 minute appointments. During these two interviews, we ask questions about your story, exploring sensitive topics along the way.

Evaluation

It takes about 4-6 weeks to complete an evaluation. Once completed, you’ll review it to ensure that we didn't miss any details. We’ll also send it to the attorney for revisions.

Delivery

Upon final approval, we will sign the evaluation and send one copy to you and the other to the attorney. You’ll feel relieved knowing this part of the immigration process has been completed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • An immigration psychological evaluation is an assessment conducted by a licensed mental health professional to document emotional or psychological factors related to an immigration case. These evaluations are often requested by an attorney and may be used to support certain immigration applications. The evaluation focuses on mental health, not legal advice or decision-making.

  • Immigration evaluations are commonly requested for cases involving hardship waivers, asylum, U visas, T visas, or VAWA petitions. An attorney usually determines whether an evaluation would be helpful. If you are unsure, we recommend speaking with your immigration attorney before scheduling so the evaluation aligns with your legal needs.

  • The evaluation usually includes one or more interviews, questions about your background and experiences, and standardized mental health measures when appropriate. The goal is to understand how your experiences have affected your emotional well-being. You can take breaks, ask questions, and move at a pace that feels manageable throughout the process

  • While the evaluation may feel supportive, it is not the same as therapy. The purpose is to assess and document mental health concerns rather than provide ongoing treatment. That said, the process is handled with care, respect, and sensitivity, especially when discussing difficult or traumatic experiences.

  • The timeline varies depending on the complexity of the case and scheduling availability. Most evaluations are completed over one or two sessions. Once all information is gathered, the written report is prepared and shared with your attorney. We discuss timelines clearly before starting so expectations are understood.

  • Yes. Your information is kept confidential and shared only with your consent, typically with your attorney. The limits of confidentiality are explained before the evaluation begins. The written report is prepared specifically for your legal case and is not shared with immigration authorities directly by the evaluator.

  • Many people feel anxious or emotional during an immigration evaluation, especially if it involves past trauma. You are not required to share more than you can handle at once. The evaluation is paced carefully, and your comfort and emotional safety are prioritized throughout the process.

  • No. We do not provide legal advice or make any guarantees about immigration outcomes. The role of the evaluator is to offer a professional mental health assessment. Decisions regarding your case are made by immigration authorities, with guidance from your attorney.
